MCA glossary

Working capital

Definition

The cash a business needs to fund day-to-day operations — payroll, inventory, supplier payments — as distinct from long-term investment.

The stated purpose behind most advances, and a useful qualifying question precisely because it is vague. A merchant who says "working capital" and one who says "payroll on Friday and a supplier deposit next week" are describing very different levels of urgency.
