UCC search

Definition

A query run against a state filing office’s UCC index to find the financing statements naming a particular business as debtor.

Also called UCC lookup · Debtor name search

Every state runs its own index and none of them search each other, so filings sit in the state the debtor was organised in rather than the state it trades in. Matching is literal, so an entity suffix or a filer’s typo hides a record that is sitting right there.
